Contraception pill

Question:

BismiLahiRahmaniRahim Wassalatu Wasalmu Ala Ashraf Al Anbiyaa Wal Mursaleen , AssalamuAlaikum ,

I sometimes have irregular menstrual cycles , and my periods can sometimes last for up to 14 days. I find this uncomfortable and have been to the doctor about it but he said that there is nothing wrong with me and it could just be due to stress. He said that I could use the contraceptive pill which would take my periods away completely as long as I was using it, but that it was up to me to decide. I would like to know please if this is acceptable in Islam or not. I am unmarried so it would not be for birth control. Please forgive me, thankyou Wasalamualaikum

Answer:

wa `alaykum salam,

There must  be consultation with the doctor, to find out whether these pills are harmful or not.

If the pills are not harmful there is nothing wrong with taking these pills, but that should not be on a permanent basis, after marriage, because that means preventing having children.
